A look at the 20 top players in the world of Golf today: Matt Kuchar
Matthew Gregory Kuchar was born on 21st June 1978 in Winter Park, Florida. Kuchar’s first encounter with golf was at age 12 when his mother upgraded the country club membership to include golf. Kuchar and his father tried it out, and Kuchar found
himself fascinated by golf and never looked back.
Kuchar as a sophomore won the Georgia Tech in 1998; he also finished T 21 and T 14 at the Masters and the US Open respectively. He also received the Fred Haskins Award and also the nation’s top collegiate golfer before he finished his collegiate career at
Georgia tech, where he graduated with a degree in management in 2000.
Kuchar is married to Sybi Kuchar, both met each other at Georgia Tech and were good friends, it was later when both of them left Georgia Tech to pursue their careers when they really felt the need to keep in touch. In day Sybi had to call one of their mutual
friends and by coincidence Kuchar picked up and both fell in deep conversation and decided they would go on their very first date. Kuchar and Sybi were instantly smitten with each other and things took off from there, and they finally decided to get married
in 2003. They also have two beautiful sons, Cameron Cole and Carson Wright. The family happily resides St. Simons Island in Georgia.
Kuchar decided to turn pro in 2000 but recorded his first win in 2002 on the PGA Tour at the Honda Classic. The next seven years Kuchar was not able to record even a single win, but kept his head high and his work ethics strong and the result showed in 2009
during the Fall Series at the Turning Stone Resort Championship Kuchar was able to claim the second win of his career.
The following year Kuchar made the US Ryder Cup team; Kuchar also led the PGA Tour in Top 10 finishes for the year, but was not able to win a tournament. His winless streak was ended at the Barclays defeating Martin Laird in a sudden death playoff.
Kuchar’s start to 2011 showed that he is getting his form back and with three consecutive Top 10 finishes it seemed that he would go on to win, but in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship he suffered defeat at the hands of Luke Donald, current number
1 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Kuchar finished tied for the second at The Memorial Tournament at Muirfield village in June 2011 behind Steve Stricker, the result moved Kuchar to world number six his highest ranking to date.
Apart from being a prolific golf player Kuchar and his wife Sybi are also involved in many charities, both support Camp Twin Lakes, which is a network of camps that provides programs for kids in Georgia with serious illness disability or handicap. They also
work in providing temporary homes for families that want to stay closer to their hospitalized child, and are provided at little or no cost. Kuchar is the kind of player that you would want to support and look up to as a fan, and whether you are American or
not, you support him for the person he is on and off the field.
