A look at the 2011 Formula 1 constructors’ standings after the German Grand Prix – Formula 1
After an exhilarating and unpredictable German Grand Prix at the legendary Nurburgring circuit, it seems that the pace has shifted to the other end amongst the top running teams as Red Bull Racing are now the weakest team in terms of race pace as McLaren
and Ferrari were looking much faster than them.
Lewis Hamilton secured his second race victory of the 2011 Formula 1 season and gave McLaren the much-needed breakthrough that they were hoping for. However, in terms of constructors’ standings, the team was not able to take the advantage as Jenson Button
retired out of the race due to a hydraulics failure.
Both RBR drivers on the other hand finished the race with good points as Mark Webber finished the race in 3rd place followed by his teammate Sebastian Vettel who scored the 4th place and finished out of the podium for the first time
this year.
Fernando Alonso on the other hand finished in 2nd place while his teammate Felipe Massa scored the 5th position after a disappointing pit stop as he lost his 4th place to Vettel as a result during the very last lap of the
race during a ‘pit race.’
Either way, it seems that Ferrari’s results do not affect the constructors’ standings much either as the team is currently in 3rd place with just 192 points. One can say that this is mainly because of the fact that Felipe Massa has been inconsistent
and has not been performing up to the mark.
Both RBR and McLaren have drivers that are still pretty much competing for the drivers’ championship with the exception of Jenson Button who recently lost some ground as a result of his retirement. He is still in pretty good shape in terms of points though.
Ferrari are currently 163 points adrift of the current constructors’ championship leaders, RBR. McLaren had a pretty good chance of closing the gap with them at the Nurburgring but now they are also 112 points behind the championship leaders.
This sort of clears out the matter that the constructors’ title is pretty much in RBR’s hands but only if they stay consistent and reliable. Otherwise, McLaren definitely have a great chance of closing in on them if either of the RBR drivers fails to finish
a couple of races.
Other than the top runners, Mercedes GP have increased their lead ahead of Lotus Renault GP by a further 10 points. Mercedes are currently in 4th place in the standings with 78 points.
Sauber on the other hand have also been improving a lot and they are currently in 6th place with 35 points ahead of Force India, Toro Rosso and Williams who are in 7th, 8th and 9th places respectively.
Neither of the Williams drivers was able to secure a single point for the team once again while Force India’s Adrian Sutil secured 8 valuable points for the team.
The tail end of the constructors’ standings is pretty much the same as Team Lotus, Virgin Racing Team and Hispania Racing Team are still pointless and are still striving for a breakthrough in terms of statistics and pace as well. That is not likely to happen
anytime soon keeping in mind that the competition up in front is very tough at the moment.
