A look at the Colonial Country Club – Part 1
Crowne Plaza Invitational is about to hit the Colonial Country Club on May 19th
and will run through 22nd of the month. The Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour’s event is carrying a purse of $6.2 million and 500 FedEx points.
The par-70 course hosting the tournament is stretched to 7204 yards. Here is a quick preview of the course.
Hole #1
The first hole on the front is a par-5 layout, which is the stretched to 565 yards. The green is reachable in two shots, but the bunkers sitting on the foot of the green make it difficult. Approach the fairway with a driver, as it is safe to use a high loft
club. However, make sure the second shot fades onto the green, as it would avoid the right side of the green, which is sloped.
Hole#2
The second hole is a par-4, which stretches to 389 yards. The hole is known to add a surprise to the scorecard, which is why, most of the field likes to take chances on this one. The preferable strategy to follow here is to hit a tee-shot onto the left side
and wedge it all the way to the green, which stands behind a tree.
Hole #3
The third hole is a par-4 stretching on 483 yards. It is not the length, but the curve that comes in the way between the green and the fairway that makes things difficult. The fairway turns dogleg left, therefore make sure the tee shot lands on the left
side to avoid the trouble.  Avoid the bunker and the tree on the same side and approach the green without much expectation for a birdie.
Hole #4
This par-3 is considered as the longest of the par 3s on the course. The tee elevates towards the green, which makes it difficult to assess the exact length of the hole from the tee box. Approach the green with 3-wood and aim the shot onto the left side,
as it would help in rolling a par putt.
Hole#5
This is the second most difficult hole on the course. The par lies on 484 yards and once again, it is not the length of the hole, but the notorious shape of the hole that requires attention of the player. The tee shot requires utmost focus, as there is a
river on the right side and a deep ravine on the left, which will leave unwanted marks on the scorecard.
Hole #6
The par-4 lies on 406 yards. The tee box is located on the left side of the layout, while the green is located on the right side. The first shot will suggest the fate of the hole, as an errant shot will run into the bunkers sitting on both sides of the fairways.
