A look at the Firestone Country Club – Part 1
World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational is about to hit the par-70 Firestone Country Club in Akron. Here is a quick look at the magnificent course, which is known for its lush green fairways and undulating greens.
Hole#1
The South course welcomes the field with a par-4 setup, which is straight and simple to conquer. The area from the tee to fairway is a plain surface without much interference from the hazards. Despite that, the experts suggest the visitors to keep the ball
straight and accurate to make the second shot easier. The green slopes from back to front with two huge bunkers on both sides. Aim the second shot onto the right side of the green to target the pin easily.
Hole#2
This is the first par-5 hole of the course. The fairway turns dogleg left making the approach shot towards the green even difficult. Moreover, the fairway is covered with tall trees that eventually affect the direction and magnitude of the wind. Therefore,
club selection is very important here. The green is protected by series of bunkers, is severely undulating and steep at the front.
Hole#3
The third hole lies on 442 yards, which makes it a medium length setup. The tee shot requires utmost vigilance as several bunkers sit on the landing area, making the shot extremely difficult. Make sure the ball plunges the landing area and lands on the left
side. The fairway turns dogleg right with trees covering both the sides. Any errant shot will be caught by the trees, hence, plan the shot well. The green is protected by a small pond, which is known for catching most of the shots aimed from the fairway.
Hole#4
This par-4 is known as the most difficult hole on the course. The fairway slopes from right to left, hence making it difficult for the ball not to roll into trouble. The second shot should overcome the elevated green, which has a bunker on the opposite
side. The long hitters will have to show vigilance, as the ball might roll into trouble, if few more inches are added to the shot.
Hole#5
This par-3 stretches on 200 yards. Hit a mid iron to the green, which is wide enough to catch an errant shot. A bunker sits on the left side, while the right side of the green is covered by trees, which means the wind from the trees can roll the ball into
the hazard.
Hole#6
The sixth hole is a slight dogleg left, which can be handled with a straight tee shot. The fairway is undulating, but an accurate tee shot is certain to pay dividends. The green slopes from back to front. It has two bunkers placed on each side, which the
player can dodge, if the shot is kept in the centre.
