A look at the Firestone Country Club – Part 2
Hole #7
This par-3 stretches on 219 yards and accounts for the largest green of the course. There are two bunkers on each side. Use a long iron to reach the green, but make sure the ball lands on the back, as it will be easier to putt for the pin, which is placed
near the edge.
Hole #8
Firestone water tower sits on the left side of the fairway, which serves as the best target off the tee. Once the player reaches the tower, targeting the green is not as difficult from here. On the left side of the green is situated the gallery. The green
slopes away from the player, which can act as a hurdle while aiming for a par.
Hole #9
The ninth hole stretches on 494 yards, which is a long layout for a par-4. The landing area for the tee shot is covered with several bunkers. Keep the ball straight and in the centre to avoid the bunkers. The green is elevated and small, hence, the player
has to be a good scrambler to toss the ball onto the green with accuracy.
Hole #10
Instead of using a driver, use a 3-wood or a hybrid on the tee, as it will help in avoiding the bunkers placed on the fairway. The green slopes on all sides. The only area, which is flat is the centre, hence keep the ball in the middle of the green to roll
the ball into the cup for a birdie.
Hole #11
The eleventh shot is a par-4 with a tree-lined fairway and two-tiered green. The shot will have to be carried with care, as the wind from both the sides can direct the ball into the trees. Target the front of the green, as the back is severely steep.
Hole #12
This is a par-3, which stretches on 180 yards. The green is wide and elevated. However, make sure that green is not missed or the player will have to run up and down the bunker to save par.
Hole #13
This hole stretches on 471 yards. The fairway turns dogleg right, so choose the left side to approach the green in lesser yards. The green is protected by an oak tree on the right and a bunker on the left.
Hole #14
The tee was extended recently and some thirty yards were added to it. The fairway bunkers, which played no threat initially, are back in the game. Two huge bunkers sit on the left side of the fairway, hence, make sure the ball is kept on the opposite side
to avoid the trouble.
