The 80s were a revolutionary era for Greyhound Derby. The sport was becoming famous worldwide and was followed each year from all corners of the world.
Greyhound Indian Joe won the 1980 Greyhound Derby, defeating the runner-up, Hurry on Bran, by a small margin of one length. He finished the race in 28.68 seconds.
Parkdown Jet was the winner of the 1981 Greyhound Derby winning be a difference of three quarters of a length from runner-up greyhound, Prince Spy. The winner of 1981 Greyhound Derby won a prize money of twenty thousand pounds.
In 1982, Lauries Panther defeated runner-up, Special Account, in the Greyhound Derby final by a difference of three quarters of a length. He finished the race in 29.60 seconds.
The year 1983 brought victory for the greyhound, I’m Slippy.
I’m Slippy completed the race in 29.40 seconds. It was a close competition between I’m Slippy and runner-up, On Spec, as I’m Slippy won by a neck.
Whisper Wishes emerged victorious in the 1984 Greyhound Derby. He beat the runner-up, Moran’s Beef, by a minor margin of three quarters of a length, completing the race in 29.43 seconds.
In 1985, Pagan Swallow beat Jack the Hiker in the Greyhound Derby Final. He won the race by a margin of one and a half lengths, completing the race in 29.04 seconds.
Tico defeated Master Hardy in the 1986 Greyhound Derby by a huge margin of five and a half lengths. He completed the race in 28.69 seconds. The Greyhound Derby was held at Wimbledon that year.
The following year greyhound, Signal Spark, emerged victorious in the Greyhound Derby, defeating the runner-up, Tapwatcher, by a short head and completing the race in 28.83 seconds.
Hit the Lid beat Stouke Whisper in the 1988 Greyhound Derby. There was a difference of one and a quarter of a length between the winner and the runner-up. Hit the Lid completed the race in 28.53 seconds.
A greyhound by the name of Lartigue Note won the Greyhound Derby in the year 1989. He defeated the runner-up, Kilcannon Bullet, by a substantial margin of five and a quarter of a length.
Lartigue Note completed the race in 28.79 seconds with ease as he was way ahead of the rest of the contenders when he crossed the finish line.
