A look at the Wentworth Golf Course ahead of BMW PGA Championship – Part 3
Hole #12
This is the first par-5 of the back nine. The 509-yard long hole is a downhill approach towards the fairway. The fairway is long and narrow, so playing safe would be a good option, while taking the tee shot. There are two bunkers on the fairway and two on
the green. The landing area for the tee shot is free from the hazards; therefore, try hitting a long shot onto the fairway, which turns dogleg right. Hit a fairway wood on the fairway and target the centre of the green to catch a birdie.
Hole #13
This is a par-4 setup, which stretches on 437 yards. The green is located on a higher altitude, while the tee is hidden on the left side of the course. The fairway is undulating with two bunkers on the left side and one on the right. Meanwhile, the green
is protected by four small bunkers on the front. The layout apparently seems small, but the double fairway makes it fairly long. Aim the tee shot onto the right side of the fairway and fade the ball onto the left side of the second fairway. Players good in
chipping might use their edge here, while birdying or otherwise the green cannot be reached within two strokes.
Hole #14
This par-3 is one of the longest of its category, owing to its yardage and undulation. It is not the length, which makes it challenging, but it is the elevated green. The green is surrounded by four hazards and has wind blowing that makes it even harder.
Approach the green with fairway metal to battle against the wind and target the back of the green, as it is the only place, which is not sloped.
Hole #15
This par-4 lies on 477 yards .The tee is located at a level below the green; therefore, the pin is not visible from there. The fairway is narrow and mainly clean from hazards, but a bunker towards the end is placed to catch the long hitters, who try to reach
the green in two shots. Aim the tee shot onto the left side to reduce the distance towards the green.
Hole #16
This par-4 lies on 383 yards. Aim the tee shot towards the right side to avoid the bunkers and do not approach the green with the second shot, as a hidden sand bunker sits in the centre of the foot of the fairway to catch the long-second shots.
Hole#17
This par-5 lies on 577 yards, which makes it the longest hole on the course. Hit a straight tee shot aimed towards right and target the green with a short iron.
Hole #18
The course wraps up with a par-5 that turns dogleg right on the fairway and has a creek running between the pin and the landing area of the second shot.
