A look at the Wentworth Golf Course ahead of BMW PGA Championship – Part 2
Hole #6
This par-4 stretches on 351 yards. The journey from the tee to the fairway is a straight approach. Therefore, choose from a short iron or a driver and aim for the area onto the right of the third fairway bunker. An accurate tee shot would help reduce the distance towards the green, which is protected on all the sides.
Hole #7
This par-4 layout slopes upwards from the tee to the green. Do not use a driver on the tee, as the wind from both the sides will deflect the ball in the ditch. Aim for 172 yards of the hole with a hybrid and target the foot of the second fairway with a mid iron. The green is two-tiered and has two massive bunkers on the right side.
Hole #8
This is yet another par-4 and it stretches on 391 yards. The fairway becomes narrower as the distance increases and has a bunker on the left side. There is water between the fairway and the green, which is narrow and bunkered on the right. The ideal approach to reach the green is by targeting the centre of the green with a short iron and putt for a birdie.
Hole #9
This is the last hole of the front and no doubt the most difficult. The par-4 layout requires accuracy from the tee to the fairway and from there onwards. There are five fairway bunkers, but all of them are present farther you go. Therefore, apparently, the short game players have an edge here. The landing area for the third shot is narrowed by two bunkers sitting on each side of the green. The strategy to sign for a par is to keep the tee shot and the second shot in the centre of the target area.
Hole #10
This is the first hole on the back and it is a welcoming layout, which stretches on par-3. The green is located on a higher altitude and has two bunkers on the front-right side of the green. Moreover, the green slopes from back to front allowing the ball to roll into trouble without much effort. The approach to follow is to hit a 4-iron and draw it towards the right side, in order to hit the pin.
Hole #11
This is a par-4, which has a higher tee, bunkered fairways and protected green. The fairway turns dogleg right and has three bunkers on the landing area for the tee shot. However, keep the ball onto the left and draw the ball towards the green to hit it in regulation.
