A look at the best captains and leaders of the National Hockey League teams
There is a huge responsibility on a player when he is wearing a captain’s “C” on their jersey and also a very proud moment as well. Some players choke when they are given this responsibility but there are players who step up and lead from the front.
There are many players who made a lot of influence after becoming the leaders of their sides. Following is the list of players who lifted their games and took responsibility, lead their teams from the front after becoming captains.
Shane Doan
27-year-old Shane Doan is the captain of Phoenix Coyotes and their main player. Since he has become captain, not only he has lifted his team but also his performance. Carrying the burden of team’s responsibility on his shoulders, he has been able to score
many points.
The 35-year-old forward has played for Coyotes since 1997 and played 1198 games, scoring 318 goals, 470 assists and 788 total points. He has had many seasons in which he scored 50+ points, in fact the last time he did not score 50 points in a season was
in 2001-2002 season when he scored 49 points.
Sidney Crosby
25-year-old Canadian international player was selected as the first overall pick of the 2005 NHL draft by Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. He made his debut in the same season and scored 100+ points in the very first season and followed it up with
another 120 points season, which earned him the Captains badge.
His performance has been phenomenal since he has started leading the team. He has scored 100+ points in the two seasons after that, 103 in 2008-2009 and 109 in 2009-2010 season. He led the team to Stanley Cup win in 2008-2009 season.
Nicklas Lidstrom
The legendary NHL player, who played for more than 20 years, stayed there with Detroit Red Wings always and set an example. He won Stanley Cup with them four times and never let them. He played more than 1500 games and scored more than 1000 points in his
great career.
The 42-year-old player is one of the very few players in the world of ice hockey sports who are members of Triple Gold Club, a term which is used for winning the Stanley Cup, Olympics Gold and World Championships.
