A look at the career of Master Class in Snooker, Stephen Hendry
Stephen Gordon Hendry is a Scottish professional snooker player who was born on 13 January, 1969 in South Queensferry, Edinburgh.
He is also known as the “Master Class” and also the one of the best players ever to pick up the cue in the game of snooker. He has compiled more than 740 centuries in his competitive career leading every other player with almost 100 centuries. He has compiled
nine maximums which was a record but now it has been taken over by Ronnie O’Sullivan as he has made ten.
Stephen Hendry holds the record of being the youngest ever world champion at the age of 21 in 1990 which previously was held by Alex Higgins (late) as he became the world champion at the age of 22 in 1978.
Stephen Hendry who has been the world’s number one players at nine occasions also holds the distinction of winning the most ranking titles (36) and is second after Steve Davis in winning the most professional titles.
The seven-time world champion also holds the record of compiling 16 century breaks in one tournament beating John Higgins who had made 14. His maximum century breaks made in a match are seven and in a season are 52.
He has earned himself the official nick names like the Golden Boy, the Ice Man, the Pride of Scotland, the Maestro and also the King of Crucible.
Stephen Hendry is also known as the best player to play under pressure and also when it comes to the break building. He normally makes up his break with potting the blue having a little backspin on the cue ball to cannon the reds.
However, he plays an aggressive game at times and has given many chances to his opponents this way. There was a time when it was said about him that he is a player who prefers making a century than winning a frame. He has also been one of the best long potters
but now the tendency of his long pots has declined.
He got his cue broken while on his way back from Thailand in September 2003. He had purchased it for 40 pounds and had used it to win many valuable snooker events in his life including seven world titles.
Stephen Hendry also holds the record of the longest unbroken streak as he has been amongst the top 16 players for 22 seasons.
Stephen Hendry got married his to Mandy in 1995 and now lives in a small town of Auchterarder. The couple have two sons Blaine and Carter born in 1996 and 2004 respectively.
Apart from snooker, Stephen also plays Poker very well and has appeared in many televised tournaments as well. On the other hand he also takes a keen interest in soccer to support the Scottish hearts.
Due to the magnificent play of Stephen Hendry success has eluded him for many years. From 1990 and onwards he was the world number one player for eight consecutive years. He is truly one of the snooker’s greatest.
Stephen is still present in the world of snooker although many new players have come up who have brought new talent with them but Stephen still holds a unique distinction amongst them.
