A look at the top prospects of New York Rangers in the National Hockey League
Last season was a great one for New York Rangers as they topped the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference with 109 points and were a sure shot contenders for Stanley Cup.
They kept their winning run going in playoffs, edging out Ottawa Senators in the Quarters and Washington Capitals in the Semi-finals of the of the tournament, before losing out to New Jersey Devils in six games.
One player that was very prominent and helpful in getting them so far in the playoffs was Chris Kreider, a very young and talented prospect of them. 21-year-old player scored five goals, two assists and seven total points in 18 games and made impressed everybody
by making a huge impact.
In last two-three years Rangers have also lost few of the their top prospects like Roman Horak, Evgeny Grachev and Tim Erixon, but still they have got very good prospects for future, which can turn out be great players. Some of those names are mentioned
below.
1. Ryan Bourque
The American national, Ryan Bourque was picked up 80th overall in the third round of 2009 NHL draft by New York Rangers and has made himself because of being part of US national junior team.
21-year-old forward who plays in the position of a centre, played last season for Connecticut Whale and had an average season with 14 points in 69 games but these stats do not tell what he has achieved so far.
At 5-foot-9, 168 pounds, though he is one of the shortest players in the league but he was a part of US junior teams that won Gold medal in 2009 World Under-18 Junior championships and also 2010 World Junior Championships. He also scored 45 goals, 57 assists
and total 102 points in 93 games he played for Quebec Remparts in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
2. Andrew Yogan
Also played for Connecticut Whale in American Hockey League (AHL), Yogan was picked 100th overall in the 4th round of the 2010 NHL draft by New York Rangers.
The 6-foot-3, 203 pounder, has played most of his hockey in Ontario Hockey League (OHL) since he first played for Windsor Spitfires in 2007-2008. Overall he has featured in 240 OHL games, scored 96 goals, 91 assists and 187 points, whereas he has played
just 6 AHL games and scored 2 goals, 1 assists for 3 points. The Coconut Creek, Florida resident is expected to feature more in AHL this season.
3. J.T. Miller
Jonathan Tanner Miller is probably the best prospect that New York Rangers have got right now. Selected 15th overall in the 2011 NHL draft, 19-year-old had a great last season with Plymouth Whalers as he scored at an average of more than 1 point
per game.
East Palestine, Ohio resident has also represented US national junior teams at under-18 and under-20 level and also got associated with Connecticut Whalers like other two prospects but he is expected to play next season with Plymouth Whalers in OHL again.
4. Dylan McIlrath
McIlrath is a Canadian defenseman who has played most of his hockey for Moose Jaw Warriors in WHL and was picked 10th overall by Rangers in 2010 NHL draft.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba born has gained a lot of experience at Warriors team by playing 232 games and scoring 16 goals, 58 assists for total of 74 points so he can be expected to do well for Rangers in future.
