A look at the top prospects of the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League
When it comes to future prospects, Boston Bruins, who play in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), have not got too much depth as compared to other teams. They had not been picking up players regularly in the NHL drafts previously.
But in the latest draft they were able to pick some very talented players with a lot of potential. One of those names is, Dougie Hamilton. He is a very young and energetic defenseman and expected to go a long way. There are some others as well but
Hamilton leads the list.
Following is the list of Boston Bruins’ prospects.
Dougie Hamilton
Son of former Olympians Doug and Lynn Hamilton who represented Canada in Rowing and Basketball in 1984 Summer Olympics, Dougie was selected in the first round of the 2011 NHL draft by Bruins.
The 19-year-old signed his entry level contract in December 2011 and also participated for Canada in World Junior championship of ice hockey. He has been playing for Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and would be expected to represent
Bruins soon in NHL.
Malcolm Subban
Malcolm Subban is an 18-year-old goaltender who was picked in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft by Boston Bruins. He was their 24th overall pick and one of only three goaltenders who were picked in the first round.
The 6-foot1, 187 pounder plays for Belleville Bulls in the OHL and also has got his brother Jordan Subban playing aside him in the same team but he is far better and faster than others in progress and might find himself playing in the NHL like his
elder brother Malcolm Subban who plays for Montreal Canadiens.
Boston Bruins’ assistant general manager Don Sweeney praised the goalie and said,
"He competes for every puck and every save -- even in the first day in this environment. Most goalies don't like to be scored on, and he's no different in that regard. But the athleticism I think and the push across the net is very impressive."
Jared Knight
Jared Knight was Bruins’ second round pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, selected at 32nd overall. The right winger who also plays in the position of a Centre made his debut for London Knights in OHL and also played for Providence Bruins in the
AHL.
The Battle Creek, Michigan native played 50+ games in all the seasons, which Sweeney appreciated as he said,
"I think anytime you have an opportunity to play that long in a season means you've had a very successful year.”
Ryan Spooner
Boston Bruins’ second round pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, Ryan Spooner is a Canadian international player, who was selected 45th overall in the draft.
The Kanata, Ontario resident played for Sarnia Sting in the OHL and Providence Bruins in the AHL last season. The 20-year-old has been playing professional ice hockey for last 4-5 years which is very helpful in Sweeney’s opinion as he said,
"I think both on and off the ice, maturity has been a big factor”.
