A look at the top prospects of the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League
When it comes to future prospects, Florida Panthers is one team that is not short of them any time. They have got few of the best prospects of the game and their upcoming players are very promising and talented.
Their prospects give their roster a lot of back up and depth, which their general manager, Dale Tallon agrees, as he said,
"We've got a lot of skill now, we've got a lot of size, we've got a lot of depth, and we've got a real solid group of young prospects. Our organization is very deep right now."
Florida have been able to pick up 28 players in the last three NHL drafts and 17 of them have been picked in the first three rounds. They are even looking to make it even stronger in the coming years, which would make them a very dangerous side for the other
teams.
Following is the list of their top prospects.
Alex Petrovic
Alex Petrovic is a Canadian professional player and a defenseman who was picked 36th overall in the 2010 NHL draft by Panthers. The Edmonton, Alberta resident played for San Antonio Rampage in the last season, after signing an entry-level, three-year
deal in April 2011.
Team Executive of the Panthers, Bryan McCabe, while talking to Miami Herald praised Alex and said,
"He's a big kid who has skills and really plays with an edge… He has all the potential in the world."
Drew Shore
The 21-year-old American was selected 44th overall in the second round of the 2009 NHL draft by Panthers and plays in the position of a forward. He also played for San Antonio Rampage last year, like Petrovic and did pretty well in the college
hockey.
While talking to Sun Sentinel in July, Tallon had praised Shore and said,
“He's a solid, two-way centerman who you could put out there in the last minute of periods. You could put him out there if you need a goal. He can kill penalties; he's a really smart player with good speed."
Quinton Howden
The 20-year-old left winger is one of the most amazing players in the ice hockey world as he had suffered a very serious bicycle accident back in his childhood days and was told by doctors that he might never became an athlete, but he proved them wrong and
had the honour of becoming Panthers’ first pick of the 2010 NHL draft.
The Oakbank, Manitoba born player has been playing for Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for last five years and his performance has been improving with time as he has scored 111 goals, 128 assists for 239 points in 244 games in five
seasons.
Jonathan Huberdeau
Jonathan Huberdeau is a 19-year-old Canadian forward, who was Panthers’ first pick of the 2011 NHL draft. Selected at third in the first round, Huberdeau plays for Saint John Sea Dogs in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
The Saint-Jérôme, Quebec born player was phenomenal in the 2010-2011 season as he scored 105 points in 67 games and can be expected to play in the NHL if he keeps on giving performances same way.
