A look at the top prospects of the Phoenix Coyotes in the National Hockey League
When it comes to picking up players early in the National Hockey League (NHL) drafts, Phoenix Coyotes who play in the Western Conference of NHL, have been the name that comes to the end. Since 2003, they have picked players in the top five twice.
Along with their early picks, there were able to avail services of Shane Doan who helped others groom very well and shared his experience with them. A lot would be depending if he stays and is there to help the upcoming players of Phoenix.
Here is the list of Coyotes’ prospects.
Connor Murphy
Coyotes’ top pick of the 2011 NHL draft, selected at no. 20 in the first round. The defenseman plays for Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and scored 26 points last season from 35 games, scoring eight goals and 18 assists.
Don Maloney, the general manager of Phoenix Coyotes praised the player as he thinks he is very strong and having a fighting spirit that did not stop him from playing even when he was injured. Maloney said,
"He's looked strong. He's 100 percent healthy and able to participate in this camp, which is great for us and great for him. ... One of the positives about not playing, having the injuries he's had, he's been able to train, and physically he looks a lot
thicker to me."
Andy Miele
Andy Miele is one of those very few undrafted players who go on to play in the NHL. The 24-year-old centre Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and played for Chicago Steel there after them.
The Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan native also played for Miami University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for some years and signed for Coyotes in April 2011. He made NHL debut in 2011 and played 7 games but played most of the season for
Portland Pirates in AHL.
Jordan Martinook
Jordan Martinook is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays for Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The 20-year-old forward was picked in the second round of the 2012 NHL draft, selected 58th overall by Coyotes.
The 6-foot-0, 200 pounder scored 64 points for Giants in the previous season as he scored 40 goals and 24 assists in 72 games.
Brandon Gormley
Brandon Gormley is probably the most talented and best prospect that Coyotes have got. The 20-year-old defenseman was picked in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft, selected at 13th overall.
Murray River, Prince Edward Island native has played most of his hockey in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) but he is a very promising player.
He was a member of Team Canada that won bronze medal at 2012 IIHF Junior world championships but he has suffered through injuries as well but he has been strong and can be expected to be a part of Phoenix Coyotes side soon and might make NHL debut in near
future.
