A look at top prospects of Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League –NHL Special
Last year, Toronto Maple Leafs, that play in the Western Conference of National Hockey League (NHL) brought in a prospect from Anaheim Ducks, Jake Gardiner by trading him with François Beauchemin, which turned out to be a great deal for them.
22-year-old Gardiner made a huge impact as he played 75 games in the first season, scoring seven goals, 23 assists for total of 30 points and signed a three-year deal with them.
Maple Leafs would be looking for another prospect which can make an impact like Gardiner did and would surely like to fresh legs in their side with young players. They have few players that they have drafted and attached with their organisation which can
play the same role as Gardiner and their names are listed below.
1. Morgan Rielly
Morgan Reilly is a Canadian Defenseman who recently signed a three-year deal with Toronto Maple Leafs. But he is currently playing for Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League (WHL).
18-year-old player was selected 5th overall in the first round of the 2012 NHL draft by Maple Leafs and looks like a very promising player.
In 2010-2011 season, the West Vancouver, British Columbia born player scored 22 assists and 6 goals, 28 total points in just 65 games and then three goals, 15 assists, 18 total points in 18 games of 2011-2012 season, before his season was cut short because
of injuries.
2. Matt Finn
After they selected Reilly, Maple Leafs selected Matt Finn 35th overall in the second round of the 2012 NHL draft. The Canadian, who also plays as a defenseman, is currently playing Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for Guelph Storm.
18-year-old, Etobicoke, Ontario born player made his debut in OHL in 2010-2011 season and scored three goals, 18 assists and 21 goals in 60 games but his second season was lot more better as he had 47 points in just 61 games, scoring 10 goals and 37 assists.
3. Joe Colborne
Originally selected 16th overall in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft by Boston Bruins, Colborne was traded to Maple Leafs in February 2011 in exchange for Tomas Kaberle.
On 9th April 2011 he made his NHL debut against Montreal Canadiens and has since played 11 games for Toronto Maple Leafs, scoring one goals, five assists and total six points.
22-year-old, Calgary, Alberta born forward has played most of his games for Toronto Marlies in the AHL where he has shown lot better performance by scoring 55 points in the 85 games he has played, 24 of which are goals and 31 are assists.
4. Brad Ross
The 18-year-old forward who was drafted 43rd overall in the second round of the 2010 NHL draft by Maple Leafs, played three seasons in the WHL for Portland Winterhawks and had great time with them by scoring 68, 69 and 82 points in the 2009-2010,
2010-2011 and 2011-2012 season respectively.
This performance earned him a call from Toronto Marlies and he will play for them in AHL next season.
