A look at two-time world champions Red Bull Racing from their first year of championship – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing took an amazing victory in 2010 Formula 1 season with their pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Moreover, they had the most competitive car RB6 as compared to the strongest rivals, McLaren and Ferrari.
Even though, they faced some challenging weather conditions and some unusual driving mistakes, nevertheless, they kept their focus on the development of the car throughout the season and succeeded to improve its pace which made them able to claim the championship
title with 498 points ahead of McLaren.
The veteran German driver, Vettel showed impressive performances in many races. He won 5 out of 19 races and secured second podium finish twice. Although he was retired in three races, nonetheless, with 256 points he became the youngest ever driver in the
history of F1 to claim the drivers’ championship title.
On the other hand, Vettel’s teammate, Webber came third in the championship with 242 points. The Australian driver secured victories in four Grands Prix and delivered many impressive performances in the season.
In 2011, the defending champions came up even stronger and completely dominated throughout the season. Vettel took victories in 11 out of 20 races and won his second championship title. Though Webber could win only one race, however, he secured incredible
podium finishes in many races which helped him to secure third place in the drivers’ standings at the end of the season.
Red Bull won the constructors’ championship title with 650 points while the Woking based team tried their best to catch up the defending championship but failed to do so and finished on the second place with 497 points.
In 2012 pre-season testing, Red Bull faced many difficulties in creating the understanding about their new car RB8. Moreover, on the last day of the final test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona they could only cover 23 laps and came last on the timesheets
because of problems in upgrades.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention that due to FIA’s ban on exhaust blown diffuser, Red Bull struggled with their car design so as to comply with the new rules and regulations. Nevertheless, they have still been deemed as the front-runner for this
year’s championship and their driver, Vettel has been considered as the out-and-out favourite for the title.
Vettel struggled at the qualifying of the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and came 6th, however, he managed to secure second podium in the race after following the British driver, Jenson Button of McLaren.
In the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he could not score even a single point as he had a collision with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT. After the race, he passed some arrogant expressions to the Indian driver and showed him his middle
finger for which he faced criticism from Karthikeyan.
In the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, he could not make his way through into the third session of the qualifying and started the race from 11th place and finished at 5th position.
Over and above, he finally claimed his first pole leading to a race win at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
In contrast, Webber is at third position with 48 points after the first four races. The Australian driver has shown a great consistency in his performances as he managed to secure fourth place finish in every race of the season so far.
RBR are leading the constructors’ championship in the season until now with 101 points and are making the best of the efforts to defend their title.
