A look at who is favourite to win American League East title – MLB Update
After making a strong start to the season, it seems Tampa Bay Rays have lost their way completely. Joe Maddon and company have used their home conditions to great effect this season as most of their wins have come at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Over the last few years, the Rays have remained one of the most consistent teams in the big bad American League East Division. Having won the title twice in the last four years, the Rays are capable of beating even the best in the business.
In David Price, they have one of the finest starting pitchers in the game today. Their offence is also packed with some of the most gifted hitters but the Rays struggled to give results on a regular basis before the All Star Break, finishing third on the
AL East standings with 5.23 record. They will be looking to sort out their problems before they take on the Boston Red Sox in their next series.
Second placed Baltimore Orioles have surprised most of us this year. Not many National baseball writers and analysts expected the Orioles to finish the first half five games over the .500 win percentage mark. Credit should be given to the Manager Showalter
who has used his limited resources superbly to give the fans something to cheer about.
Right now, the Orioles are 45-40, seven games behind the league leaders. After losing 12 straight seasons, they finally have an excellent chance to make it to the playoffs. However, with some of the key players including Matt Wieters getting injured just
before the All Star Break, the Orioles may find it tough to post similar numbers post All Star Break.
New York Yankees are the leaders of the AL East Division. With some of the best hitting and pitching talent in their squad, it will be fair to say that they are the favourites to win this year’s World Series title. Speaking of the numbers, only Texas Rangers,
who are 52-34 at the All Star Break, can challenge the Yankees. What’s more alarming for other teams is that the Yankees are still looking for ways to improve.
