Question:

A lot of Polish dishes use sour cream but do they have normal cream in Poland? I've heard that they don't.

Sounds silly but I have had a couple of Polish people look at me like I'm stupid when I talk about cream being different to sour cream. They apparently only have one type of cream in Poland (besides whipped cream in an aerosol can) which I can only assume is sour cream from the recipies of Polish food that I've seen.

  5. POLAND EXPORTS DAIRY PRODUCTS NOT IMPORTS THEM ( IF FACT THEY HAVE TOO MANY DAIRY FARMS)

Babcock says that Poland's dairy sector could help itself by doing more to rationalize and consolidate: “Stated bluntly, Poland has far too many dairy farms and dairy processing plants.” There were 356 dairy plants in Poland at the start of 2005.

  6. The answer above says it all but kinda long...You make sour cream from fresh cream. Period. If they looked at you confused it is because they wanted to be polite and thought you knew where your sour cream came from...so they probably just didn't know what to say to a question that made no sense to them.

  7. Hi, i lived in Poland for a year and love sweet cream for some recipes and on desserts but I did have a terrible time trying to get my hands on it in Poland. However there was a cream available which they use for coffee. It is about the same consistency as single cream but it comes in smallish packets. I remember I had to throw away a few mushroom sauces experimenting cooking with different creams and this coffee cream was the best.
