The Dutch striker’s representative Louis Laros revealed that his client was wanted by many European clubs including Liverpool and Newcastle United, but Borussia Monchengladbach were the most eager side to acquire his services.
Luuk de Jong’s agent, Louis Laros, has revealed that his client was wanted by several top European clubs including the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United, following an exceptional 2011/12 season at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede.
Netting an impressive 25 goals while setting up plenty more in 32 Eredivisie appearances, the Dutch international made headlines for all the good reasons week in and week out.
Borussia Monchengladbach, who sold their star striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733 to Borussia Dortmund earlier this month, were in the market to bring a replacement for the German international, and saw the Dutch hit-man as a perfect addition to their squad.
Although, there were several other clubs interested in signing the young striker, Die Fohlen were quick to agree terms with the Dutch ace as well as his club.
De Jong’s agent was not hesitant revealing that his client had several admirers, but the Bundesliga side was able to strike the deal at the earliest.
“There were a lot of clubs interested in Luuk. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 showed interest and also Newcastle were very interested in signing him. But everything happens so quickly in football and in the end Gladbach showed the stronger desire to sign him whilst Newcastle
were not able to come to an agreement with Twente”, Laros was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Tukkers in the summer of 2009 after spending a whole season at De Graafschap, was a regular at De Grolsch Veste and had been performing consistently for the past couple of seasons.
“Luuk was a regular starter at Twente, so one of his priorities for a transfer was to play at a club where he would be able to continue his development as a footballer. Gladbach were able to assure him that they trusted him and wanted to give him a prominent
role from day one”, Laros concluded.
De Jong has reportedly signed a contract at Monchengladbach that runs until the summer of 2017.
