for the last week I have asked one simple question. Where does God tells us to TRY or to STRIVE to be perfect and not one person answered the question. People have a bad problem telling people that God expects us to try when he doesnt say that at all and l want these people to show me where God tells us to try or to strive when he says to be or to do. I know that when God told Abram to be perfect, he didnt mean it or even said, I want you to try. but since people say it's impossible. I want them to prove God to be a liar, cause when you say it is impossible to be perfect, then you are calling God a liar. So show me in the passage below where God says to try.

Genesis 17:1

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Proverbs 30:6

Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Revelation 22:18

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

  1. The funniest part is that christians claim that god is perfect, yet his creations are far from perfect.

    Perfection cannot create imperfection. Period.

  2. Read the book of Gospel. It is there.

  3. I think that God tells us how to be perfect, not because He expects us to be, or even really wants us to be, but He tells us what to do to be better Christians. There are a couple times in James such as James 1:4 that He tells us how you can be perfect, but all He really wants is for us to try so that we can have peace. Asking us to be perfect is asking us to be something that is completely impossible. I believe what God really wants is for us to do is humble ourselves, and in return be better people by His standards. By not being prideful, we admit when we are wrong, do not lift ourselves up above others, think purer thoughts etc.

  4. Key word is 'try'.

If you don't try apparently you burn in h**l for all eternity.

Nice, deal with your own creation.

  5. God never tells us to be perfect or to try to be perfect.  He tells us the same thing He told Abram.  Walk before me and I will make you perfect.  Only God is perfect.  Only God can make us perfect.  But, to walk with God, we have to know where He is walking.  Walking with God is what some people mistake for trying to be perfect.

  6. Matt 5:48

  7. The word be is future tense. The word are is present.

God doesn't impute perfection of us, he demands we be better. This means we have to try.

    Very lame argument.

  8. John 5:14   Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, "Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you." (NASB ©1995)

In other words, if you keep sinning, you are screwed. Therefore, you must strive to be perfect, for anyone who sins is imperfect. This is what it's all about for you people.

  9. God tells us throughout the Bible.Example...Deut.13:14,1 Kings 8:61,Matt.5:48,Col.1:28,Heb.13:21,James 3:2,1 Peter 5:10

It would be better understood that one must be mature in Christ.Only Christ was perfect,we can never be perfect but we strive to be like Christ.

  10. Our Society strives 4 perfection, but we're not perfect! No one is perfect in God's eyes and we all fall short of his Glory! Abraham, and his descendants weren't perfect either!

  11. God is perfect- and when he created adam and eve so where they- until they sinned thus causing death, disease, and every other bad thing into the world- God was making a covenant with Abraham. If he would follow God and worship him only God would send the savior(Jesus) through Abrahams line. No one can be perfect without Jesus.

Jesus said " Pick up your cross and follow me" In other words do as I do not as you wish. Try to be like Christ- you should read the new testement- Romans especially.

  12. Matthew 5:48 – Be ye therefore perfect, even as YOUR FATHER which is in heaven is perfect.

He doesn't say to try, He says to be.

  13. Yoda said it well in Star Wars: 'Do or do not, there is no try'.

You are absolutely right that we were never encouraged to try and be perfect, we were told to BE Holy, to BE righteous, to love one another and to BE perfect.

How can we be perfect? Because Jesus has redeemed us. He has set us free from the captivity of Sin! If we are to be born a second time, to be born of the spirit, then that second birth is a birth into the righteousness of Christ free from the iniquity of the sinful, fallen nature. When we truly embrace this freedom we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to BE Holy.

  14. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.Matthew 5:48
