But I think that is quite the unmerited perception.

Psychology requires a lot of science knowledge and critical thinking...so isn't it a challenging field?

  1. Most people who think that don't know enough about it to have a qualified opinion.

  2. Yes it is. People always put another thing done to raise what they are doing up.

Edit: lol after re-reading my post the first sentence seems like I am calling it a crock of bull...but I was replying to her additional details.

  3. it is a complicated field. having the knowledge to shoulder someones problem and give a solution. it's a psychological job.

  4. I'm a psych major and have one semester left. The perception is that psychology consists of some guy telling people to lay on the couch and talk about feelings or Dr. Phil. My professors hate him by the way. Psychology is the study of human behavior. If you want to work in the field you need a minimum of a masters and to do research you need a PhD. If you go into clinical psych you will work under a psychiatrist to help mentally ill people. Social psych is primarily research based to study how people act in groups. Cognitive is research based to study how the brain reacts to stimuli. Counseling is the couples therapist or something of that nature but to have your own practice requires a PhD. So if you are going to major in psych you have to be in it for the long hall if you want a job anyway.

  5. I think it's one of the most intriguing fields out there; the ability to pick about the human brain is completely fascinating.

Anyone who dismisses it so easily usually just doesn't get it, or doesn't take the time to try.

  6. Ignorant people justify their ignorance by saying things aren't  worth knowing -- so what else is new?  Psychology is simply the study of human behavior.  There are different versions of it and approaches to it.  Not all psychology is about the subconscious mind -- some schools of thought are only about behaviors, not what causes them.  And when you get down to it, advertising, entertainment and art are also about psychology.  So it's a very rich area to study -- full to ideas.
