  1. Electrical energy is input into a loudspeaker. Some of the output energy appears as sound, and some as heat.

It is the opposite to a microphone, where sound energy is input.

  2. So you talk into a loudspeaker and the energy from your voice goes into wires?

Is that how a loudspeaker works?  What about a microphone?

  3. The function of a loudspeaker is to convert electrical signal into sound. The way they do it is that the electrical signal will repeatedly turn the electromagnet on and off at a certain frequency, and since the electromagnet is on the diaphragm, the diaphragm also vibrates at the same frequency, thus generating the sound.

Your question describes the function of a microphone. The structure is similar, but with a difference. Condenser microphones have a capacitor inside, to convert the change in vibrations into electrical signals.

  4. It actually works both ways:

If you connect OUTPUT of amplifier to the speaker it will produce sound. But if you connect speaker to INPUT of amplifier it will work as a microphone (not very good quality). Speaker and electrodynamic microphone designs based on the same idea - coil in the magnetic field. If you put current through coil it will move and produce sound, but if you will move coil it will generate electricity. Only difference between microphone and speaker is size of "cone" attached to coil and size of coil itself. Because microphone has small coil and cone it will not work very good as a speaker. And because speaker has heavy cone it will not work very good as a microphone, but it will work! You can check it yourself by plugging headphones in microphone input of your PC.

Note: I was talking about electrodynamic microphones (older style). New style microphones are using electrostatic field to generate signal.

  5. False

    It is exactly the opposite
