Hey everyone. I loved YU-GI-Oh but its kinda boring now. I saw on the internet that a good game for me would be Magic the gathering because its like a step up from yugioh and its for older peoplee and kids my age (15).

My question is can i buy a deck at walmart or target?

What comes in a deck?

How many types of decks are there and what are they?

I have been researching this nd i think i want my deck to be a combo of white and blue, what do you think.

my playing style is like get out my small monsters to occupy the oppenent use some spells to keep them on a leash and then finish them off with my strong monsters.

is white/blue a good combo for my style?

What do i need for tournys?

Please answers all my questions cause i wanna know asap. thanx

  1. yes you can buy them at walmart, target, etc they come with 60 cards some are tournament some are starter. But it is recommended that your go to your local hobby shop to buy your deck because chances are someone knows their way around in the game and can give you some pointers on what deck might be good for you, and they might be able to explain the rules of the game. hope this helped

  2. You can buy decks from Target and Wal-Mart.  Though I would recommend that you get them from your local card shop.  Target has a better chance of having Magic cards.

A deck will come with lands, creatures, instants, sorceries, enchantments, and artifacts (maybe).

There are different types of decks out there:

    Control

    Burn

    Aggro

    Stompy

    Swarm

    Just to name a few.

First off, if you are a brand new player (which I assume you are) I would go with a monocolored deck.  That way, you can learn the basics of the game.  Then move on from there.

    Easiest colors to play:

White or Green or Red-Really easy to learn and master.

Blue or Black is the hardest to master.  Blue is mostly about control.  You have to know when to play stuff and when to hold back.  Black, you have to be willing to hurt yourself to get the bigger end result.

    As for combo colors

    White/green would be the easiest.

Green/Red would be the next easiest.

Then White/Blue, followed by Red/Black and lastly Black/Blue.

Your playstyle seems more Red/Green.  They both have cheap fast creatures to start off with and red to burn away the opposition and big creatures to finish the job.

For tourneys, you need to find out what type of tournament it is.  There are certain cards that can only be used in certain tournaments.  Some cards are banned or restricted in certain tournaments.  Find out what type it is and then find cards that will be allowed in those tournaments.  You would hate to go to a tournament and find out some of your cards are not allowed.  Chances are that you will probably be playing in Standard Tournaments.  They consist of the 2 latest blocks and the latest core set.  That would be Coldsnap, Time Spiral, Planar Chaos, Future Sight, Lorwyn, Morningtide, Shadowmoor, and Xth Edition.

Any more questions, feel free to ask.  I am always willing to help out new players.

    Good luck and have fun.
