A male rat around two females???

I have 2 females and im getting a male but hes gonna have his own cage. I want them to be able to play so should i make a little diaper thing for him or what?

I would not risk that unless you are FULLY capable of dealing with babies. That's just way too risky. Odds are he'll manage to get out of that diaper somehow, at some time.

You should get him neutered if you want him to play with the girls. If not, get 2 males and they can play together.

1 - get your boy another boy cage mate if he's to live by himself

2 - get him and his cage mate neutered

3 - wait a MINIMUM of 5 weeks AFTER surgery before allowing them anywhere near the females - rats can get pregnant through cage bars and are great escape artists - keep them as far apart as possible or in separate rooms until they are completely safe

I suppose that would work if he would keep it on. I think ultimately if there is a will, there is a way. If one of the females is in heat and the male really wants to be with her I am not sure there is much you could do about it. He may even get nippy and be hard to pick up when this happens.

It is an interesting idea though.

If you really wanted to get a male you could take him to the vet and have his you no what taking off or you just keep a close eye on them when they are together.I hope my answer was helpful to you.

You can get your boy neautered, or (the better option), get him a male partner to have as a cage buddie.

If you don't want kits, don't let your boys and girls play together. They can mate in a matter of seconds! Also, don't place the cages right next to eachother, because they can mate through the bars.

No. You have two choices here... find an experienced small animal vet and have him neutered or get him a male friend.

Do not mix the sexes even for play time, it literally takes seconds for them to mate.

Rats breed like none other!!! Their litters are usually around 10, their pregnancy is quick...therefore, leaving them more time to get preganant again. I guarentee your house would be full of rats in a matter of months. lol. I've been there. Don't think the diaper idea would work out because they are so curious and clever. I think the only options are abstinence and him getting fixed. lol.
