A man arrested accused of killing a dog with a golf club
The game of golf became an unusual media spotlight and the only apparent reason was that a club which has remained in use of a local golf player was identified to be the main weapon used by a local resident in killing of a pet dog, named Lily.
The dog in the neighbourhood of Larry Jaurequi was allegedly hit on the head by Mr Jaurequi.
Barbara Hitchman, the owner of the pet, on becoming aware of the incident, took her dog to a nearby veterinary clinic where it was confirmed to have died of the head injury.
According to doctors, Lily’s life could have been saved if it was brought earlier at the clinic. However, the swing shot was so strong that it did not have much time to survive. It was just one swing that did the whole damage.
Hitchman was later tipped by her neighbours that they had witnessed Jaurequi hitting the dog and apparently attempting to hide the incidence.
“She said he lined up as if he was doing a golf shot, and he just whopped her, and she said she went so far in the air, she did three summersaults and hit the pavement,” Hitchman told KABC in Riverside.
She continued by saying that she walked across the street in order to talk to Jaurequi. However, he did not pay any respect to her. Also, he was not even ashamed of his behaviour.
“I said, ‘You are insane, you are a psycho, you need locking away,’ and he said, ‘Try it, you better get out of here too,’” she said.
According to Hitchman, Jariqui also said that Lily should not have been left loose as it could have hurt anyone on the street.
Hitchman reported the incident in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department the same day it happened. Therefore, they reacted quickly and arrested the accused man before he could escape.
“I don’t believe this dog was a threat to this man in any way, he just for unknown reasons attacked the dog with a golf club,” said Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Cpl. Courtney Donowho.
