A man who has type A blood has the AO genotype. His wife, with type B blood, has the BO genotype. Which of the following blood types is/are possible for their children?

  1. There's a 25% chance that their children will have the genotypes AB, BO, AO, OO, and therefore have type AB, A, B, or O blood.


  2. If you are talking about blood type only, then I assume you only want the phenotype but I'll show you the genotype too so it won't be confusing.  The children can be any of the following by chance:

    1.) Type AB (AB genotype)

    2.) Type A (Ai genotype)  Note that textbooks usually use the letter "i" to indicate the O in the genotype.

    3.) Type B (Bi genotype)

    4.) Type O (ii genotype)

    All four blood types have equal chance (25% for each genotype) of being the phenotype of the children.  All you have to do is cross them together one by one.  A with B and A with i.  Then, i with B and i with i.  Each letter is one allele.  Go practice some more.
