I guess somewhere central with access to nice shops, en route to Taj Mahal. Middle budget. Nothing over expensive but must be clean

  1. Well as you being a married couple I would tell you to stay in Central Delhi (eg. Rajinder Nagar, Karol Bagh). Cannaught Place is not preffered because its not safe for women in night. At Rs. 500 a night you can get good hotels with friendly staff and both the areas mentioned above come in the route of Agra cause being centrally located. More over there are a lot of Taxi and Tourist operators in the vicinity for you to get a bus or a taxi. Taxis (small one) usually cast not more that Rs 5/Kilometer. And its a 4 1/2 hrs of journey to Taj Mahal. And being centraly located all the monuments are nearby. Like Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Birla Mandir, Qutab Minar, etc.

  2. I suggest you buy an India Lonely Planet. This will give you a number of options in the budget-mid price range. Most independent tourists seem to stay around the Pahar Gange area as it is close to the railway station (ignore touts outside- the booking office is inside upstairs) and Connaught Place (I have not found this area to be dangerous and will be taking my wife there in the Summer).

This will also help you with a hotel in Agra when you go to see the Taj- Happy travels to you both.

  3. In New Delhi you will find all sorts of hotels and inn to fit your budget.

    Here are a few suggestions
