A massive amount of US $ 104,000 each to be given to the 2012 ITTF World Tour Men’s and Women’s winners
ITTF World Tour 2012 will offer the highest ever prize money offered by the Table Tennis Federation in the history of the sport. ITTF World Tour, which was previously known as ITTF Pro Tour, will reach new financial heights with record breaking prize money.
ITTF has not yet announced the sponsor’s name for the 2012 World Tour but it is expected that the name will be revealed shortly.
ITTF already has many offers from different sponsors interested in funding the 2012 season.
A total amount of US$ 2.5 million will be funded during the event. The Grand Finals will offer a maximum amount of a million dollars as the winning amount.
An individual amount of US $ 104,000 will be awarded to both the women’s and the men’s singles winners.
Few changes have been implemented for the coming season as the qualification criteria has been changed for 2012.
ITTF has published the changes in criteria, stating, “A player must compete in a minimum number of five tournaments as opposed to six events or three continents as in previous years”.
It further asserts, “The criteria for the doubles, competing as the same pair in four events and for the Under 21 events, playing in four events in two continents, remains the same as in previous years”.
However, the men’s and women’s doubles events will comprise of eight pairs with one pair representing the host nation.
A total number of 15 events will be organised with one Grand Finals for the 2012 ITTF World Tour.
The tour will kick off in Hungary on January 17, and the season will conclude on December 9, 2012.
The Euro-Africa Circuit will hold two tournaments in Circuit and a total number of four tournaments in Europe for the 2012 season.
ITTF is also planning for the introduction of similar tournaments in Asia-Pacific and the Americas for 2013.
The leading four men and women players from the Euro-Africa tournament will progress to the 2012 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals. Top 16 players meeting the qualification criteria along with the four players from Euro-Africa will make a total number of 20 players
for the 2012 ITTF World Tour.
