  1. 1. 6 - 3x = 8 --> -3x = 2 --> x = -2/3

    2. 9n = 31 --> n= 31/9 = 3 4/9

    3. n = n/3 + 3 --> 3n = n + 9 --> 2n = 9 --> n= 4.5

    Hope that helps!

  2. Problem 1: First distribute the 3. (multiply 3 by 2 and by -x)

    you get 6-3x=8.

    then subtract 6 from both sides. you get -3x=2

    divide by -3. you get  x= -2/3 (-.6666666666666666)

    Problem 2: add 4 to both sides. you get 9n=31

    divide both sides by 9.  Your final answer is 31/9 or 3.4444444444444

    Problem 3:  distribute the 1/3. you get n=1/3n+3. then subtract 1/3n from both sides. you get

    2/3n=3. then mulitply both sides by the reciprical of 2/3. (3/2) you get n=4.5

    Hope I helped.
