Question:

A mile run in a week....how do i train?

I'm suppose to run a mile in 7 minutes and 40 secs or less on August 5th. I know it's my fault that I haven't been constantly training for it. I was sick on the month of June and this whole month has just been busy because i have band practice along with volleyball and sometimes I'm just too tried to run. Is it too late to run a mile in time by August 5th? I've been running but i haven't ran a mile straight. I usually rest in between laps. This Thursday I ran and the best time for a lap was 1:49 and it was the last one and i didn't try for another one cause i was extremely tired ( i also ran that morning too). Please give me tips on how to run a mile in 7 mins and 40 secs or at least close to that time. If i don't get it by August 5th I still have to do it by the next timed mile run we have(it's for volleyball and we have to keep doing it until we can do it within 7 mins and 40 secs). So just please give me anything that will help me.

  1. its never too late. lets see tomorow is the 27 so that gives you...um 8 or 9 days sooo run like mad everyday in the morning, afternoon and um yeah run around the town. good luck!

  2. im sorry to sound kind of pesemistic but i am going to honestly answer your question. the only time you gain endurence is 3 weeks after you workouts so if you ran a mile today you would only start to feel the improvement 3 weeks later. august 5th is not 3 weeks or even close so i dont think that is enought time. also considering you had to stop after 1 lap and couldent finish it without stopping and taking rests... 1 minute 50 secs times 4 is 7:20 but that was for one lap so you would probably run it much faster then the others, and you wasted all of your energy on that one lap.... i dont think you finishing the mile in under 7:40 is very likely right now. i can run a lap in 1:10 but my mile time is like 7 mins right now because im kind of out of shape. you can practice every day  and try your hardest to fisnish the entire thing but by the time you will be able to make it in 740 will probably be after august 5th. im sorry

  3. Do not run like crazy in the next 9 days you have gradually build  up to it just do half miles for 2 days and then 3/4 miles for another two days and then run miles, and you should be ready to go by the 5'th
