A minor wants to buy my used car, should I have the parent sign the purchase contract & title transfer papers?

  4. Yes. You must be 18 or over to enter into any legal agreement and/or contract. Otherwise the transaction is considered null and void. If you let a minor sign for a car, the car still belongs to you. And with that go all the liabilities of having a minor driving your car.

    The car cannot be registered in the buyers name, since he's a minor. The title cannot be transferred to him and he cannot insure it. So everything to do with it hangs over your head.

    Have his parents or legal guardian sign for the car so the sale can be recorded and ownership transferred.
