A mix of rain and snow postpones the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies game giving Rockies a lifeline
DENVER – Rain and snow shelved the Wednesday night game scheduled to be played between New York Mets and Colorado Rockies. The New York Mets had finally won their only game on Tuesday by 4-3, following their seemingly unbreakable chain of defeats. However,
they were in a comfortable position to win the game on Wednesday, May 10th, when the weather disrupted it.
The rain that led to postponement of this game was the 21st to be washed away this season, including the postponement of the Rangers and Athletics game at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
The 2010 season, interestingly, had the same number of games to be postponed due to rain. The two teams are now scheduled to face each other early on Thursday, May 12th, at 3:10 p.m.
Colorado Rockies might be struggling to put a stiff resistance on Wednesday, largely because Fowler had a sore kneecap after fouling a pitch.
Fowler would be eternally grateful to the weather for having saved him a nightmare, had he played against the Mets on Wednesday.
Fowler left no impression of being unsettled due to injury. “Crazy weather", Fowler said. "I'd rather play, but it gives me another day. All I'm going to do is sleep and ice this knee. That's it".
The weather is expected to be ideal for a good game on Thursday. "We just had a cold, spring storm move across the area," explained Dan Leszcynski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "But the weather should improve".
On Thursday, Mets will descend on the ground with a record that is hardly reassuring. Much to the team’s overall disappointment, Mets have lost a considerably big chunk of their games, winning only one the previous day.
Mets won the game with little resistance from the Rockies as their offence went for early hits. However, Colorado Rockies came back in the game with equally good defence, only to be eventually limited by Pelfrey, who was not only good with the ball, but
also with his bat.
Therefore, Thursday’s encounter will make a thoroughly open competition for both teams as it is not easy to predict who will emerge as the victor. But in all probability, Mets are likely to give their best on Thursday to continue their newly found winning
streak.
