What do you mean by "mob"? Did this happen in Mexico?

Call the police.

If you mean that someone in Mexico stole it, then just report it to the US Embassy and replace it when you get back.

Reporting it to mexican authorities won't do you any good or help in any way. Any legal process in Mexico takes months at best and lots of money to finally get nowhere.
