Question:

A month in Tokyo--Where to stay: Ebisu or Yoyogi?

My buddy and I are spending a month in Tokyo this autumn followed up by a week in the Philippines before returning home. We have done a lot of research on where we want to go and the sights we want to see, and after looking at all sorts of hotels, ryokans, and apartments, we have narrowed it down to three: one is in Ebisu (described as the area Tokyo locals love to live, which sounds like exactly what we are looking for) and the other two are in Yoyogi.

Is there anyone who has spent a little time in Tokyo that could possibly share a little information about those two districts. Any and all information would be appreciated, thanks.

  1. Ebisu, for sure.

There are a lot of international restaurants in Ebisu plus some real good bars, including British pubs, if you're so inclined.

The Yamanote line and Hibiya line go through Ebisu which means you can get to places like Roppongi, Ginza, Akihabara, Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Shibuya without having to change trains.

Daikanyama and Shibuya are both within walking distance of Ebisu as well.

Yoyogi is a fine place, but I think Ebisu is by far the better place.

  2. Both are very convenient locations, and you won't regret it if you choose one or the other.  You might want to check out how close the places are to the nearest station,  because that's what really counts.

But if you're into nightlife, Ebisu has a slightly better access to Roppongi- two stations on subway & you can even walk if you have to; it would take 15 - 30 mins on foot depending on where you are in Ebisu.  It is also my personal preference.

  3. There is little difference between the 2. You don't have to spend time on choosing one.

They are only 3 train stations away.

  4. Nothing difference particularly. Actually even if say Yoyogi or Ebisu, there are many different places. Some are quiet decent cultural district but some are squalid alley.

You'd better try to check the condition of room itself rather than name of district.

The resident of apartment information is most important. Why don't you ask them first. The landlord shall introduce you  somebody who lives there as rent now for your surveillance.
