This is a question for anyone who is in Ph.D. program or someone related.

I plan to apply for a med school, so that I could start 1 year AFTER graduating from college. For that one year of gap, I have been looking for a place to stay. One option, someone suggested going to grad school for one year.

You guys know Ph.D. programs are free education if I work as a teaching assistant or research assistant while in the program.

Do you think it is not moral to apply for a Ph.D program to stay there for just one year?

  1. Ethically speaking it is not moral to apply for a PhD program. The reasons are as follows:

You are entering the program under false pretences.

You will waste your advisors time and money, possibly compromising his/her research.

You will potentially take the place of someone who is truly motivated to complete a PhD degree, and who might make a significant contribution to the field.

    But hey, it's your conscience!
