A more effective way to ball handling ?

I've been playing basketball for around 3 years now and recently i want to join my school team.I read a few guides on the net and learned a few handling drills(the 8 shaped drill, around the legs, head and torso drill and some others).I've been practicing for about 2 and a half months(2 hours a day) and have improved but i dont think i can make the team.My right hand is better but is still just Ok,i cant really control with my left and i still need to concentrate on the ball.So can anyone suggest a more effective way ?

Also, i'm abit shy and not confident cause this is my first time trying for a team.I'm scared i embarass myself and i dont really know the players.I try to play games with a 'i will win' mindset but not really working and i get crushed over a missed shot.Anyone have ways to boost confidence ?

  1. hey don't worry about a missed shot that is most important. Being depressed over a missed shot can really effect your confidence. I am guessing you want to be a good point guard as your working on ball handling?

You don't have to worry about handling the best you can do is dribble low and move the ball between your left and right hands so that your defender does not know which way your going and over a period of time you will get better and handling will come naturally.

But for right now work on dazzling your coaches and teammates by your shots and passes cause that's basically what a point guard should be good at. I would suggest practicing your shots on one spot on the court. (Mine is right wing) This way whenever you shoot from this spot you will get it in 90% of the time.

Then once your an unconscious shooter from that spot try shooting from different angles as your shot will be real good already!

I know you wanted to be a better ball handler so, try looking up when dribbling the ball to gain confidence while dribbling and you will hardly loose the ball, and make wise decisions while passing.

Hope I helped! And play on a house league basketball team to get good coaching advise.

  2. never ever lose your confidence i play 4 to 5 hrs a day and it takes alot of work to improve your handles. see if this helps
