  1. You realize that "HP, Vaio, or Mac" aren't computers but companies that make computers, lots of different machines or configurations of machines at different prices.  Brand alone will arouse varying opinions from different people.  Many people hate Dell - and not to contradict them, I have been the owner of a Dimension DT for about 3.5 years and can't complain about its reliability.  Many like HP, but doubtless some people were burned by them - one guy has got to consider HP a horrible company, the worst in the world.  When you shop by brand, you can guarantee that you'll get the system that you don't want.  It's like shopping for a car and ignoring all else but make (a ford, maybe a Chevy).  When you shop by brand and ignore spec, your ignoring suitable alternatives from other companies and might get steered to a more expensive machine than you need.

There is no machine that is better on the whole because computers are neither built nor configured for the whole - you have ultraportables, mainstream, media machines, gaming, tablets.  You've got low-end CPU's, multi-core monsters, machines w/graphics cards, those using integrated graphics, etc.

    you get the idea?

There's no way to give you more than a simple (and useless) answer w/o knowing what you need it for, what machine you want, what makes you like one over the other and what to spend on.

You don't even specify why you want a laptop?  A desktop is probably a better bet.

"i could easily go for a mac"

That[s the problem, an uninformed buyer is one who could easily buy something.  If you can take anything, maybe you can do without anything.  I mean, do you even need a machine?  And if you did, what kind of Mac - you've got "cheap" Macs, then the Air, and the Pro.

You really need to do some shopping and look at other machines.

  2. Are you willing to wait? Apple is rumored to release new macbooks and macbook pros in maybe October.  I think you should wait till then, so you can see if you like it or not. But if not, then there's the HP Pavilion dv5t. I've been hearing great reviews for that one. Look it up.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Hmm I would say go the mac, cos i am biased.

But if you like windows and have lots of SW for wind, then maybe a dell or hp or sony.

I would personally pay a bit more for a comp with OSX and no virus's and ease of use.

  4. If you want an incredibly reliable laptop that will last you a long time and run smoothly then you should go for a mac. Macs can not get viruses so no need to worry about anything like that. The word processing functions on macs are also brilliant. Hope this helps!
