Here's the question would you want a brand new car and deal with a costly car not that you can't afford yet or get a reasonable car that bucket( a beat up car or old car that still runs for those who don't know what I'm saying and just urban lingo challenge like yourselfs on this site). Do you want to deal with public transportation to get around?

  1. How is the public transportation in your area?

How long is your new car likely to STAY new if you get one?

Me, I'd go for a bucket, in most situations.  The less you CARE about a car, the more fun you can have with it.

edit:  For the love of god, do not buy an Aveo or a cheap Suzuki.    The Aveo is a Daewoo, and the Forenza, Reno, and Verona are Daewoos, and they are not good cars.  Your 11 grand would be much better spent on a late-model used car than an Aveo.

  2. A brand new car, because it is cheaper in the end.  If you buy a bucket, than probably you will nickel and dime it to death.  Public transportation is a hassle and you have to deal with other people.  At least a new car, you will have a warranty for 3 years.

  3. I've almost always had newer cars (my oldest purchased "used car" was a two year old Corvair Monza; my very own oldest car was a six year old Plymouth that my Godfather gave to me - for the magnificent sum of $ 1.00, with a blown engine!  That excludes the eight year old Dodge D-500 that was actually my father's car, but which he allowed me to use as my own.); "buckets" don't really "float my boat".  That being said, there's nothing like a primered mid-1950's era Dodge, Plymouth, Chevy, Ford or Mercury that would really turn me on.  Of course, it wouldn't remain "stock" for long, but that's the answer to another question. Thanks for asking!  Good luck!

  4. If you look in the newspaper and on www.craigslist.org

you can find some good cars reliable, clean transportainion. But if you dont want or have time to look, buy a cheaper new car suzuki or chevy aveo.

you can buy a new 07 aveo for 11 thousand and they come with a 3 year 30,000 mile wanrenty.

Whatever you do listen to your gut if you think its a lemon walk away. No one will think less of you for it.
