Remember that report that came out last month that said overweight people were causing global warming? Well there's a new airline that's opening that will helf fight that growing problem.

What is the "Sliding Scale"?

The "Sliding Scale" comes from the notion that each of us is responsible for the energy we use. There's nothing wrong with toting around a little extra mass-as long as you pay for it.

How much will your tickets be?

It depends on how much you and your luggage weigh. These masses will be combined and then turned into a price with our "Sliding Scale". If you and your luggage have a combined weight of less than 200 pounds, the cost savings is considerable-as high as sixty percent for domestic flights!

  1. Funny.  Sometimes you just gotta read the fine print.  It says:

"The Derrie-Air campaign is a fictitious advertising campaign created by Philadelphia Media Holdings to test the results of advertising in our print and online products and to stimulate discussion on a timely environmental topic of interest to all citizens."

But I'll bet there'd be all kinds of dieting going on by air passengers all over the globe!

I did hear that airlines will be charging more in the near future for carryons or what is considered "extra" for luggage.  It makes sense, and will not only encourage people to travel light but could stimulate the economy at the end-destination.

    Great question, thanks.

  2. Who weighs the same, an obese person or a tall body builder?

What if you're a body builder or are naturally tall and big.  I mean, if someone is six foot eight inches, he has to pay more for something he can't really control.

I'd hate to have the discrimination insurance on that one.

  3. It will do as we all know it will! It will save the airline money and help them make money! But do nothing for the environment! It is just another way to get more bucks and play that they, somehow are helping! Why not? Al Gore lied about the source of the greenhouse gases, and who is he? The invernter of the internet? Nay, just another Liberal. Earl

  4. It's just a marketing ploy to target the clueless left customers

  5. You may see a major industry disappear within a few months = Airline Passenger Service.

We can all give thanks to the Environmentalists.

With fuel prices rising so fast they are losing money Big Time!

So far only 5 US carriers are in Chapter 11 this year.:

    UPDATED 4/11/08

LATEST CHAPTER 11 FOR US AIRLINE COMPANIES....

    1 - ALOHA AIRLINES

    2 - CHAMPION AIRLINES

    3 - ATA AIRLINES

    4 - SKYBUS AIRLINES

    5 - FRONTIER AIRLINES

    Long List - From:

    http://www.aviationexplorer.com/defunct_...

Air Freight is far more necessary and prices will increase - Fresh Foods are more important than passenger service.

Airlines are forced to increase prices or go out of business - The question is:  Will the increases in Airfares be supported and enough to stay in business?

Edit:  They Already have grounded 100s of planes!

  6. It`s a waste of time. It`s colder in Germany and there burning coal is up 8% to keep warm

  7. Ha ha ha....brilliant.

(There will simply be too many extras and treats on our flights to list here, but highlights will include: gorgeous air hosts and hostesses, golden-age Rat Pack films, top-shelf vodka Martinis, on-demand video blackjack, spacious private washrooms outfitted with porcelain fixtures and gilded faucets, gourmet snacks, on-board masseuses, loofah scrubs and, of course, digital cable!)......

LOL...where do I sign up...I only weigh 133.5 LBS and I think I could definitely go through my ticket price in Vodka and massages.....

  8. I say good! Limits have been set on how much emissions my car can produce, yet the airline industry has a free pass, and they do the most harm. The aviation industry (worldwide)burns 180 million tons of fuel each year. This is roughly 46,153,846,150,000 (46 billion) gallons of fuel. Most of this fuel is burned in the sky (where it counts the most for pollution). I think they need to be doing anything they can do to scale things back a bit, just as everyone else is having to do right now.

That said, I also believe that we need to be working on an energy policy for America before we turn ourselves into a third world country. We do have oil, and we need to be working on that. We can also build nuclear power plants (since true 0 emissions clean hydro energy like building dams  is anti green agenda). If we don't, it will soon all be over, as we will soon be a third world country.

Everything on the shelves in your local store has used some amount of fuel in some way to even exist. Because f fuel prices inflation is coming on everything!

Forcing the population to be 'green' is the wrong way to go about it. Makes me think it's time for another civil war!

  9. global warming is a natural occurance in the earth and there is nothing we can do about this natural event.

  10. Fat Azz Airways are planning to dig up trees for every thin person they serve, in this anti discriminatory way they hope to be able to offer every fat azz flyer a free tree which some poor surf somewhere will be forced to plant for them for peanuts, honest..

Check out what all airlines have been charging for years for what is called excess bagagge.

  11. Let's just go back to using dirigibles, HMMM?

  12. There is of course no such airline. It was a hoax and marketing test. It isn`t such a bad idea though, but won`t work with the present structure in place.
