There was not alot coming out just a little and only in one nostral. not sure if this is okay or not. please if you have any info that could help me. Also no coughing was involved. and I already looked at his mouth no cleft.

  1. after your mare foaled  take the foal and wipe out the nostrils

if they foal keeps with the milk coming out the nose take it to the vet.

  2. I agree with the first poster, I'd get the vet out there just to see if he's okay.

  3. Niccole, horses' mouths and noses aren't connected. Horses cannot breath through their mouths which is why when they gallop/ do fast work their nostrils expand to take in more air. That doesn't explain why the foal had milk coming from its nostrils. I would call the vet, just incase.

    And blackheart:

No horse should be killed because of its bloodlines. You are destroying a healthy life and that horse could give so many people pleasure, fun and love. Some people (like me) aren't lucky enough to have their own horses. I would give almost anything.

  4. Call a vet immediately!  This foal's symptoms are not normal.  If you want to save your foal, get professional help ASAP.

  5. just remember that your nose and mouth are both connected for better breathing in different circumstances.  He is new at this whole breathing and eating thing.  He could be a messy eater, he might have blown it out his nose, most likely it was a fluke, but jsut keep an eye on him.  If it happens consistently, then call the vet and ask for advice over the phone.  I have never had a vet that wouldn't try to answer questions over the phone.  If the vet thinks it is serious then he will let you know.  good luck and congrats, baby horses are wonderful.

  6. He probably was drinking really messily and he got some into his nostril

  7. The baby is doing find, just a pig at feeding, If he is standing today I rest my case. my foals all did things differently, and each one worry me, for a while, and then it was business as usual. In fact my son birth gave me less or a worry that my mares giving brith. As long as you got the iodine on the cord, and all of the placenta  from the mare, you are good to go. Get a baby halter on hin and start feeding him as soon as colt will take feed. the quicker you start handing him the easier  it will be latter. I would say if the colt does not have a good blood line, cut him as soon as possible. there is not much damned for grade colts. Yes I know it is your baby, but , are you ready for raising and having a Stallone ,

  8. Does this happen every time?  If so, I still say it's a cleft - you might not be able to see it too well, depending on where the cleft is.  It can be anywhere near the soft and hard palates.  Either way, you need to vet to come and take a look ASAP.  You don't want your baby to aspirate or get pneumonia from milk going into his lungs.
