A new panel to take care of school’s athletics activities – Jamestown Public School Board
Athletics performance is as important as the students’ performance in curricular activities, perhaps that was the reason why the Jamestown Public School Board was rather concerned over the students’ performance in sports.
In order to lay down a comprehensive plan to hone the innate athletics skills of the students, the board members of the school met 59 times in last 14 months.
Finally, coming up with a thorough plan incorporating a variety of suggestions, they unanimously recommended the formation of a committee, named as Strategic Action Team.
Besides athletics, the said committee will also look at the extra-curricular activities in schools.
The primary job of this committee will not only be to review the old recommendations from the School Board, but also to provide with new suggestions that may contribute towards improving the school’s performance in athletics competitions at all levels.
The formation of the committee is definitely on cards. However, its members have not been decided as yet. The board has announced to receive applications from the parents, the school’s board members, community members and coaches to become a member of this
committee.
Commenting upon the situation, one of the board members stressed on the fact that instead of the size of the committee, diversity of its members should be ensured.
He stressed on the need for having professionals that may work on increasing the speed, agility and strength of the athletes.
The School board committee had a similar stance. As highlighted by Anderson, “The road to excellence will not be found by improving – but by change”.
Hinting towards an important factor of financial deficit that the school is facing these days, Anderson suggested that the problem could be overcome by forming a partnership with Jamestown College.
The said partnership will ensure that all the expenses for professional trainers will be shared equally by both the institutions.
Anderson also proposed to form similar partnerships with the Jamestown Regional Medical centre and other similar institutions, having athletics trainers.
Since the district does not have any comprehensive plans, the school board is rather concerned about the children’s co-curricular activities.
To achieve the desired results, the school is also planning to hire professional teachers as coaches. As a matter of fact, this will ensure better students’ performance in comparison to the other educational institutions in athletics.
