I know nothing about baseball and I can't tell how good that is from reading the different comments or more likely I'm not sure if I can trust the comments because as soon as they say 40 miles per hour isn't fast they tell me they have a kid who throws at this speed or better. I know parents tend to be a bit biased sometimes when it comes to their kids and the sports they play so I thought I ask on here.

  1. nine years old wow i can barely throw 35 and im 14

  2. I see nothing wrong with the speed of the pitch, especially since there are teams for 7-9 year olds around the country that use machines to pitch 35-40 mph balls instead of pitchers such as the league on this page: http://www.oakvillelittleleague.com/divi...

I read the article about the kid in question and I have to say it sounds more like a case of money and politics that is going to come back to bite that league in the butt. Shame is, its the kids that will suffer.

  3. Obviously it's above average.  Nobody wants the ban the kid from playing, they just want to ban him from pitching in that league, or else have him move up to pitch in an older league.

But I want to know too, how much above average is this kid's pitching speed?

  4. At that age that's ridiculously fast. At that age kids don't have the right motion normally and can't throw fast at all. It's not until about 11 that kids can throw 40-50 and then not until like 14 when they can hit 55-70.

Compare that to the kids in the LLWS who throw 80. That's how fast 40 is for a 9 year old.

  5. whty622 wow you have terrible arm and leg strength. im 14 and i can throw high 60's- 70's. also thats prob average

  6. That is a pretty good speed for a child of that age. Although you must consider that he is throwing that ball on a smaller baseball diamond at that age than that of a high school ball field. Also another thing to take into consideration is if he pitches then you must see how accurate his throwing is, if it is accurate then it is a little bit above average but if not his arm is slightly bellow average.

  7. well if hes playing in a league with 11 and 12 year olds who throw 60-65 im sure his little 40 mph balls are getting rocked. Hes only 9, who cares? if he can get the ball from base to base id say hes doing good.

  8. 40 mph is slow for 9-10 year olds.

40-50 mph is average speed for 9-10 year olds.  55 would be a fast pitcher at this age. See efastball.com.
