  1. I'm not sure what your question is....

    Why is this done?  To prevent deep-vein thrombosis.

    How much heparin to mix?  20,000 units in each one-liter bag.

    How much heparin is the patient receiving?  20,000 units divide by 1000 mL = 20 unit/mL.  So 50 mL/hr x 20 units/mL = 1000 units/hr, which is the standard maintenance dose (often after a bolus of 5000 units).
