A peak at Dominican Republic Women’s Volleyball Team
The Caribbean ladies of Dominican Republic are also on the board along with other 23 teams for the FIVB World Championship 2010. The women’s action-packed activity is about to start in Japan on October 29, 2010. The arrangements have been set up in several
cities of Japan and most of the teams have started their practice session there. The Dominican Republic’s Women’s National Volleyball Team has also arrived in Denso, Japan and team is quite busy in practice and training sessions, in order to get ready for
the big clash.
The team is supervised by the Brazilian Marcos Kwiek as head coach. Kwiek has led the team in an exquisite way and earned good repute over the past years. The Dominican Republic fought bravely in the FIVB Grand Prix and defeated tough contenders such as
China and Italy. The victory against powerhouses and ruling teams of the volleyball world has set a new dimension for the Caribbean team. The team has gained a lot of confidence and is determined to show their bright side to world.
The team has been placed in the Pool D. China, Russia, South Korea, Turkey and Canada will be accompanying Brazil. The Dominicans will play their first match against Russian hot-shots at Osaka on 29th October, 2010. At the end of first round,
the Pool D will cross over with Pool A (Costa Rica, Algeria, Poland, Japan, Serbia and Peru) and Pool E will be formed. Afterwards the game will enter the most influential phase of the game and ‘final four’ matches of the championship will be played.
The head coach Dominican Republic’s team has urged them to go higher in the ranking. Currently, the Dominican Republic is staying at Number 11 in the world ranking. The coach has a plan to work for the better position of his team. He said, “Our goal is to
make the final-twelve teams round and anything after that will be a plus. The team is well prepared and ready to make noise at this World Championship.”
The Caribbean team will be battling at the FIVB World Championship for the seventh time. The team qualified for the World Championship in 2006 but couldn’t stand in front of tough rivals. They were out of the game after the first preliminary round and settled
for 17th position. In the year 1998, the Dominicans captured the 11th spot. Nonetheless, the team performed really well at regional level. They have seized four gold medals at Pan American Cup, Central American and Caribbean Games, Final
Four Cup and Unique Cup, this summer.
Last week they also stroke with Netherlands in a friendly matches series and proved their iron against the Dutch players. The team played with strong player-line defeating Netherlands. In this edition of the FIVB World Championship, Dominican Republic has
brought in the veteran players. The wing spiker Milagros Cabral, middle-blocker Annerys Vargas will be playing for the Caribbean side. Besides them, the setter Karla Echenique, wing-spiker Prisilla Rivera, middle-blocker Lisvel Eve, and opposite Sidarka Nunez
will also be in the squad. Brenda will be playing at libero’s position for the Dominican Republic. The opposite Altagracia Mambru will be on rest as she developed some arm problems, while playing in Peru.
However, the team has very good addition of Bethania de la Cruz. The head coach Kwiek has an optimistic view about the player. The coach said, “Bethania will be coming off the bench and she will be a great help even though she has not reached his top shape.”
