now im aware that this is a pretty popular question but there is a disputed answer. some people believe the answer is $10,737,418.24 using the equation of 0.01x2^30 and that the penny already began doubling on the first day. others believe that the answer is $5,368,709.12 using the logic that the penny doesn't begin doubling until the 2nd day and the equation of 0.01x2^29 (30-1 cuz of the aforementioned reason).u guys decide which is rite.

  1. You are given a single penny on the first day, which is doubled over the next 29 days.

It makes no sennse to multiply it out 30 times.

  2. 29 because you have to start on day 1

  3. You have one penny all day the first day.  Hasn't doubled.  It doubles on the second day, doesn't really matter what time, giving 2 pennies.  So the answer that fits that would be the correct answer.

  4. I am 67 years old and I heard this when I was a kid. It starts out"I will pay you a penny for the first day you work and I will double it every day for a month" Most people would say no way, but when it is added up it is $5,368,709,.12 for a 30 day month

It is $10,737,418.24 for a 31 day month.

    day one---.01

day 2 double it--.02 and so on

  5. endless because if you say you have 1 penny and then you say 2 then double that everyday so on and so forth
