A penny for your thoughts on public liability insurance?

I'm trying to organise a smallish family event for 100-200 people with a talk, possibly childrens games etc. I am doing this on behalf of an organisation, with their logo etc. Where do I begin with insurance? Is it even worth looking into this? Thanks

  1. answer 1 is absolute rubbish!  You cannot contract out of your legal obligations with a sign!!!

Cover requirements like yours are commonplace, I would suggest contacting a local broker who will get a price within a few hours or take a look at http://www.events-insurance.co.uk/

The above are the company I use - I am a commercial broker.

  2. Include a big disclaimer in all your advertising that people attend and participate at their own risk. 1p please.

  3. It really depends on what you are doing and what type of organisation you are talking about. It could well be that they have PL cover for the organisation. If your event is a party in a hotel it is likely the need for cover will be minimal as it will be difficult to hold the organisation to blame for the hotel (for example) poisoning them.

    More information I am afraid.

BTW the answer above is nonsense. In the UK one cannot contract out of one's liability for personal injury.
