Agreed, the Queen is indeed a great tourist attraction.

Query; can you have a monarchy without the trappings of a parasitic aristocracy ... loitering on a civil list ?

Without these retainers, The Crown is as good a device as  a non executive Presidency.  Tied up as it is with such a long tradition, Britain  is properly associated with Monarchy and the present Queen is unsurpassed in her probity.

Well if thats so then why do we need the rest of the useless family.

The monarchy is an out of date system and should be up dated so that only the reigning monarch gets paid the rest should be made  to work.

The property they claim belong to the state and should be returned .

Norway Holland Sweden and Spain have the right idea and the Btits should follow suit.

The Queen should be retired and left on a pension and the next in line should take over as a pure figure head with no power what so ever.

Along with the Monarchy the House of Lords should also be scrapped and have an elected upper house as most countries do .

Why should the Brits be ruled by an out of date system they should be like the rest of Europe and ruled by the people

The people who do say that that are ignorant,small minded people,who parrot what the gutter press and brainless larger louts say.The Queen and certain members of her family are the greatest ambassadors that this country could possibly have.I am under no illusions that if I were to turn up in another country,trying to hawk my wares,there would be very few doors opened to me.Royalty go there and people are falling over themselves to try to invite them to do anything,even if it is only to have a dump at their home.For an eighty year old woman to be working as hard as she does is not easy,Her day is planned from start to finish,she can't call in sick because she has a headache or skive off when she gets fed up and has to smile when greeting the most obnoxious people that you wouldn't p**s on if they were burning to death.I don't think,that even any of her detractors,deny the hard work that she does.Try it for a month or two,having to meet your familly,friends and customers everyday.and being nice to them as well.Tourist attraction?Certainly but,so much more.

Well the queen only plays a ceremonial role now. she doesnt have any real power, the Prime Minister is the leader. i think it is out respect and tradition why shes still such a big part of England.

The vast majority on this site are anti royalty so most will say yes....but she is part of the history of this country....stretching back over a thousand years. We have little to be proud of now, so the one constant thing is the traditions which have built up and of which we should be proud, but pride in ones country, or even oneself has in general disappeared and I think its a shame.
