A picture challenge - modifying?

Question

1) An old picture has some tiny blank spots on it, especially at the edges - how would you correct it?

2) Another picture is faded in colour at one of its corners - modify it?

What software and method would you use?

I use Paint Shop Pro.

It's hard to say how I'd repair them without seeing them, but I think it  would involve the clone tool, Push & Smudge brushes, scratch remover might be helpful. Cropping the edges is also an option.
