A piece of Wrigley Field falls on the street
Not always does a piece of a stadium’s roof fall down onto the streets. However in Chicago, anything can happen. As Ron Emanuel is running for the Mayor’s position in the city, the Chicago Cubs are working on fixing their stadium before the next season kicks
off in April. At the moment, there is no immediate solution, as a repair seems unlikely due to the adverse weather conditions.
The Wrigley Field was a site to see recently when strong winds blew a piece of the roof down, during a snow storm. Cubs’ spokesperson, Peter Chase, was on the scene and related the events that took place yesterday evening to the press. The 97-year-old ballpark
has survived a lot of aboriginal conditions that have prevailed in the city, over the past few years.
The latest incident, however, indicates a lot of things to the team, and it may be time to reinforce the structure before something worse happens. A panel that was mainly made from fibre board had broken off the roof, calling for the Management of the facility
to ring up the authorities and convey the incident to them. The two parties then worked towards preventing any further damage and curtailing any possible problems being passed over to the public.
The police took no chances with the incident, as they told the press that lanes from Addison Street, between Sheffield Avenue and Racine Street were closed. Clark Street, between Waveland Avenue and Addison Street, was also closed due to the falling debris.
The Chicago Cubs will need to start off their repairs soon as the challenge for the playoffs is at hands. The club has the hard task of dealing with team problems and the management needs all the time it has to focus on the spring training. The team faces
a tough contest from the Central Division in the National League, as the top teams have reinforced their rosters for the coming challenge.
The Milwaukee Brewers pose a big threat as Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum are set to star in their rotation. The St. Louis Cardinals have Lance Berkman in their hitting line up, while the Cincinnati Reds sport a team that won the division last year. The Cubs
have their own additions to showcase in their challenge for a spot in the playoffs. Their acquisition of Kerry Wood, Carlos Pena and Matt Garza can light up any opposing club in a fixture.
