Well I did the home school thing many years ago, earned my Bachelor's degree from college and now going into the work force. Currently I am pursuing a career with the police and fire departments. Well one of thier requirements is a high school diploma or GED. I don't have my orginal diploma, and they don't accept my college(Yeah I know I should go into what I earned my major in and make more money, but I guest I just fell in love with the excitement of public service). So I am hoping I could get some help on a diploma... I saw Microsoft's templetes but you need a seal which I dont have, also I guess I need a name I don't think... Smith's High School will work if my last name is Smith. Normaly I just say the place has abunch of idiots working for them not knowing a college degree is much better than high school and leave. The college I went to wasn't ITT Tech is it a top 50 school in the area! Thanks for any help

  1. If you were homeschooled, your local education system should be able to pull your records as the govn't wouldn't allow homeschooling unless there was proof.

at least in canada, children HAVE to attend school until they are 16, wither they are homeschooled or not.

You couldn't ask your parents to help you find the information? Or go to your local board and ask them what to do?

  2. If you were homeschooled independently, your parents can just plain sign a diploma and date it whenever you graduated; if they're no longer with you, I don't really know how that works, except if you sign for them?

IMO, it's really just a formality - I've never been asked for my original diploma, and the only place that's ever asked for my transcript is the colleges I applied to.  As for a name, you can name it Smith Academy or something like that, that's what we do.

Do they need to see your actual diploma, or do they just require that you did graduate?  If they don't require the piece of paper, just make up a name for your homeschool and put down the month and year that you graduated.

Your graduation - and whatever paperwork you come up with to prove it - is just as legit as one offered by a brick and mortar school.  If your parents are still with you, just have them sign one, our local Christian bookstore/educational supply carries them, there may be something like that in your area as well.

  3. As other's have said, if you homeschooled independently you could just have your parent's sign a diploma.  However, if the job requires an accredited diploma, you may need to just go ahead and take the GED test, usually that is not an issue once you've gone to college, but if for some strange reason they require it of you, just go ahead and take it.  If you have earned a Bachelor's degree the GED test should be super easy.

Honestly though, I'd just tell them I was homeschooled and show them a homeschool diploma signed by your parents.  Don't try to pretend its from a traditional school, be honest about it.  Here is a place to order supplies for graduation, including diplomas and seals.

  4. You need to contact the Board of Education in the state you graduated HS in order to get your records - which would have something to confirm you graduated HS, or not - regardless of whether you  were homeschooled, or not.  I have never been asked for my HS diploma -  I can however, get records from the Board of Ed if I need to prove anything.
